Connecting a generator to house wiring takes a transfer switch or an approved interlock installed by a licensed electrician, and most places need a permit and an inspection. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet. Run a generator outside only, at least 20 feet from the house, with the exhaust pointed away (CPSC).

Accuracy

We work to keep every figure right, but we cannot promise it is complete, current or right for your equipment. Appliance figures are typical values from published charts; your appliance's label, your generator's manual and your electrician are the real numbers. Product specs come from the makers and can change; check the listing and the maker's page before you buy. Altitude, heat and fuel type lower a generator's output.
